The Invitation

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,

Magnolia Event Design worked with Tenley Erin Young on this shoot and we decided somewhere in there to go native- native american boho and have fun with the long days of summer and the tribal trends and threads that were all around us.

Sitting at Shutter’s on the beach having brunch (so chi-chi, I know, I know…) I saw a killer mound of sand and thought, there is our mountain.  We shot in the middle of a busy Santa Monica beach, but still got the vibe of being all alone.

Two of the four models are my very dear friends and I have always wanted to see them in front of the camera.  Thanks girls, you rocked it!

LunaBella Makeup Art did everyones looks and man were we soooo excited to see the girls when they arrived on location.

I can’t stress enough, that when you give someone freedom within their art how amazed you will be.  Same can be said for our cakes on this shoot… one had gardenia frosting… no, I am not kidding and yes, it tasted like heaven, if you happen to love floral flavors as much as I do.

I hope you enjoy the shoot as much as I enjoyed producing and designing it with Ten.

Oh and we had it featured on Green Wedding Shoes too!  Thanks ladies!

We saw a beautiful, fresh, updated meeting space amongst the sad and drab brown walls and carpet.  We quickly set about changing the space to reflect us and we did it all ourselves.  From laying the flooring to painting the walls, beams and all of the furniture to fit the vibe we sought.  Along the way Tenley majorly killed her ankle and if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I would have thought she was trying to get out of sanding… ha ha.  She is better, happy to report, but this quick change was a labor of love and a lot of work.

To celebrate our new pad we threw a party and invited the event industry to join us in christening the new spot.

I feel super blessed to be part of the Santa Barbara event industry and want to thank all of those who helped make our party happen… xoxo

The Four Seasons Biltmore Santa Barbara Escala garden.  We were there to raise money for Angels Foster Care and to bring awareness to the community.  Holly with Coast2Coast Collection asked me to design this event on behalf of her for the Angels and featuring Juliska.  It was the perfect combination.  We decided on a theme (An Al Fresco Afternoon on the Riviera) and to host a marketplace prior to the lunch to raise additional funds for Angel Foster Care.  I decided to make unique combinations of Juliska plates and glassware in order to get the guests eyes to move from table to table; to be able to see all of the unique designs, colors and patterns they produce.  We used Juliska vases and candlesticks and cake plates for centerpieces and again I grouped items together that I thought would work best and show off the uniqueness of each piece Juliska has in their collection.  Shannon of Ruby and Romeo filled the vases with lilacs, tulips and all the fresh spring flowers she could find.  The wonderful Melissa Musgrove captured the entire event.  Take a peek at all of the wonderful colors and the fabulous day.

We took a quick break before the “season” hit full speed ahead and boarded a plane to Portland.  It was for work and for fun…  The super fun part was trying all of the new food, drinks and restaurants that this town has to offer.  Today as we go ready to bid this fair city adieu, we made a few lists…

List number one-

  • All the types of meat we ate in the past few days:
  • Boar
  • Scallops
  • Pork Belly
  • Ham
  • Beef
  • Fish- few kinds
  • Shrimp
  • Chicken
  • Duck

List number two-

  • All of the restaurants we tried:
  • Pok Pok (Eat the wings!)
  • Andina (Empanadas- I am not usually a fan, but these puppies were so delish!)
  • Produce Farm (Corn Dog Special)
  • Sizzle Pie (Bring earplugs, the music leaves you with a headache, but the pizza is yummy)
  • Screen Door (Fried Chicken and Waffles- fo real!)
  • McMenamins (People swear by the beer, but the side salad was killer)
  • Voodoo Donuts (Maple Bacon Bar)
  • Whiskey Soda Lounge (Whiskey Sour)
  • Hair of the Dog (Just ask if you can “walk the dog”)

List number three-

  • Shopping: 
  • Vintage shops (I could have bought a billion props and still had money left over)
  • Nike (Bring all of your Nike gear and wear it!  The home of Nike, you see everyone in the gear and feel a little bit like an outsider if you don’t partake as well)
  • Saturday Market (From food to crafts there is a little bit for everyone)

Time flew by up here… though our visit was short and sweet we saw and did quite a bit.

This updated website has been long, long, long over due… the end of all of our emails housed links to all of our past weddings and instructed our future clients and current clients to follow the links to see our updated work… sad, yes, but we are not web gurus by any stretch of the imagination and so it was a task that we decided to keep putting off.  Well let us tell you we hope to never ever, ever make that mistake again.  Sorting through a billion wedding photos and picking a few of your favorites resulted in many hours of nostalgia (good) and frustration (bad), but alas we are almost there and super excited for you to be viewing our more current events.  WE hope to officially launch the new site to everyone soon (eeek!) but while we work on sprucing it up and putting on the finishing touches we hope that you will enjoy looking around and also feel free to give us any sort of constructive critisism that you might have.  What are we missing?  Areas that need help? Areas you love?  Ease of navigation?  Let us know.
